Your Pregnant
The test was positive. . . A doctor confirmed it. . . Your Pregnant . . .Your Scared. . . It's all you think about! If a pregnancy right now was not in your plans, none of your choices are going to be easy. The decisions you make today will have an impact on every part of your life and how you will feel, and what you will think about yourself in the future. Think of this time right now as an opportunity, a turning point, not a crisis.
The Cochrane Pregnancy Care Centre is a safe place where trained peer counselors will help you explore all your options. We will take all the time you need to discuss information on parenting, the loving option of adoption, and abortion procedures and risks. We will take the time to help you sort through the issues, choices, and changes this pregnancy will bring to your life. We can talk to your partner and your family. We can refer you for professional counseling and other community support services
Challenges you may be facing
- Fear that family members (if they find out) will react with anger, be disappointed in you, or lash out with an "I told you so"
- Your boyfriend, lover or even husband is threatening to leave. He doesn't want to be a father, at least not right now
- There maybe to much pressure and not enough money
- Perhaps tests have indicated that there may be some genetic abnormalities or complications for the health of your unborn child
- You finally have your act together; School is actually going pretty well right now / or your really struggling and they are threatening to kick you out
- Diaper changing may look like a poor substitute for a promising education or career
- Placing a baby for adoption after nine months of pregnancy and after going through labour and delivery may seem unbearable and painful
What you don't need . . . accusations, lectures, or simplistic advice to make a quick decision and "get on with your life" or "just pretend it didn't happen"
What you need . . . kindness, gentleness and practical help. You have a right to know what all your options are and what help is available. Ultimately you and only you, will have
to decide what choice you can live with for the rest of your life. No one else has the power to do this for you
You are not alone. We are here to help. Many others have been where you are right now and have made it through. And with the love and support of friends, you will too.
